While expressing its deepest condolences and solidarity with the bereaved family, the National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland has unequivocally condemned the brutal and racially motivated attack on a Northeastern youth, Angjel Chakra, in Dehradun, which tragically led to his death.

Stating that this heinous crime once again exposes the persistent and systemic failure to ensure the safety and dignity of citizens from the Northeastern region living outside their home states, the NPP said such incidents are not isolated aberrations but part of a disturbing and recurring pattern of racial abuse, targeted violence, and institutional apathy faced by people from the North Eastern states across the country.

“These acts strike at the very foundation of India’s unity and cannot be dismissed as routine law-and-order issues,” it added.

The NPP Nagaland urged the Government of Uttarakhand to immediately arrest all those involved and ensure that the accused are booked under the strictest provisions of criminal law. The party demanded swift prosecution, a time-bound investigation, and exemplary punishment, so that this case sets a clear precedent and sends an unequivocal message that racially motivated violence would be met with zero tolerance and the full force of the law.

Further, the party called upon Parliament and the Government of India to urgently take cognizance of this grave national concern and enact a comprehensive central legislation specifically addressing racial discrimination and hate crimes.

“Such a law must provide for stringent punishment, fast-track trials, victim and witness protection, and clearly defined accountability of law enforcement agencies. Repeated assurances without legislative backing have proven ineffective,” the NPP stated.

The NPP Nagaland further asserted that national integration cannot be sustained when citizens are attacked and killed because of their racial identity, and stressed that Parliament must act decisively to ensure that no Indian, particularly from the North Eastern region, lives in fear within their own country.

The party reiterated that justice in this case must be exemplary, serving as a strong deterrent against future acts of racial violence.
