Days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that the Government of India has decided to fence its border with Myanmar and end the Free Movement Regime (FMR) in the border areas, the National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Isak and Muivah (NSCN IM) has said that it is against these decisions.

In a press release, the group stated that it is shocked by GoI’s move to abrogate “the time honored” Free Movement Regime. NSCN IM also mentioned that the Naga people have never accepted the “treacherous” international boundary demarcation set up by the then Prime Ministers of India and Myanmar Jawaharlal Nehru and U Nu in 1953.

“As one family Nagas needs free movement from both sides”, it stated. The group highlighted how the “cruel” arbitrary boundary demarcation runs through the house of the Angh (King) of Longwa in Mon district.

NSCN IM asserted that it is totally against boundary fencing and will not allow it any further division to the Naga family as a nation.

On the issue of illegal immigrants, it said that Naga will control any illegal immigrant in Naga soil. “We will not allow any illegal immigrants in our territory,” NSCN IM affirmed.
