Kohima: Wangnao asserts commitment for peace and reconciliation

The Vice Chairman of NSCN-IM, Tongmeth Wangnao, on Thursday said that the incident where the Chairman of NSCN-R (Akato) Konyak Region, late Temzei Konyak, was reportedly abducted and killed by the NSCN-IM in Lapalampong, Tizit, Mon was “unexpected and very unfortunate”.

In his statement, Wangnoa regretted that such an unpleasant had taken place after a long period of peace.

“Had the sense of self control exist and restraint, had the opinion of superiors been sought such occurrence could have been prevented and human life saved”, he stated.

Vice Chairman of NSCN-IM asserted his own commitment for peace and reconciliation among the Nagas in his statement and said that such incident must not be repeated.

Wangnao also expresses his “heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members.”

Earlier on 30 July 2023, four cadres from NSCN-R (Akato) group were reportedly abducted by NSCN-IM from Lapalampong, Tizit. Late Temzei Konyak’s body was recovered the next day from Namsa, Tizit compelling NSCN-R (Akato) to make threats to retaliate. Various other organisations have condemned the occurrence and appealed for peace from all parties.
