NSCN-K OGW apprehended in Tinsukia District in Assam

Margherita: Joint team recovers Rs 12 lakh cash, believes it is extortion money

One active Over Ground Worker (OGW) of NSCN (K) and a woman were apprehended during a joint operation by a team of Indian Army and Assam Police on 10 June 2024 at Tikok village in Margherita of Tinsukia district.

The PRO & Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, informed that the operation was launched after receiving specific information about presence of Over Ground Workers (OGWs) in the area. The joint team also recovered Rs 12 lakh cash and certain incriminating documents during the operation.

The money was discovered from a neighbouring house and police have apprehended a woman from the house for further questioning. The money recovered is assessed to be the extortion money collected by various insurgent groups operational in Upper Assam.
