The NSCN/GPRN (Yung Aung) and ULFA (Independent) have given the call to boycott India’s Independence Day. The groups have also declared a total shutdown from midnight till 8:00 pm on 15th August in the states of Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh and have urged all the freedom loving Wesean citizens to reject this day and support our boycott call by remaining indoors “under the spirit of ‘One People One Region One Vision”.

Emergency services, media and religious activities will be excluded from the purview of the shutdown, the joint press release informed.

NSCN (YA) and ULFA (IND) have claimed that the India’s Independence Day is the “colonialist symbol is just to deceive the world and justify the illegal domination to continue suppression of the legitimate aspirations of the Wesean region.”

Alleging that India is desperately trying to paint the picture of normalcy in the region, the groups said “Beneath the veneer lies a harsh reality composed of brutal military oppression, endless? human right violations and cruel assimilation policies.”

Further, NSCN (YA) and ULFA (IND) have said that that the Independence Day celebration has nothing to offer the region except a sorrowful reminder of another year under India’s brutal occupation. “Infact it is an insult to the aspirations of the Wesean peoples who had sacrificed much for restoration of our lost sovereignty,” they stated.

This day will continue to remained a ‘Black Day’ in chapter of Wesean revolution, the groups said.
