Chairperson of the Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW), Nginyeih Konyak on Saturday announced a district-wise ‘Mahila Jan Sunwai’ (Public Hearing) from March 9 to 13, 2026.

Addressing media persons, Konyak highlighted that the initiative is being taken by the National Commission for Women in partnership with the Nagaland State Commission for Women to commemorate International Women’s Day and to reinforce collective commitment towards women’s safety, dignity and access to justice.

Describing it as a significant collaborative outreach effort, Konyak informed that the week-long public hearing drive aims to provide women with a direct and accessible platform to voice their grievances and seek institutional support. Complaints relating to domestic violence, workplace harassment, maternity benefits, abandonment, trafficking and other forms of gender-based injustice would be heard and addressed during the hearings.

Swift Redressal and On-Ground Support

A key highlight of the ‘Mahila Jan Sunwai’ would be its focus on time-bound grievance redressal. Dedicated benches comprising Chairpersons and Members of the NSCW, District Administration officials, District Legal Services Authority (DALSA), police authorities, legal experts and Protection Officers would be present to ensure immediate hearing of complaints, registration and escalation of serious cases, legal guidance, procedural assistance and structured follow-up mechanisms.

Walk-in complaints would also be entertained during the Jan Sunwai from March 9 to 13.

Strengthening Grassroots Access

The Chairperson emphasized that by taking the grievance redressal mechanism directly to the districts, the initiative seeks to bridge institutional gaps and ensure that women, especially those from rural and remote areas, receive prompt support without procedural delays.

Organized as part of the observance of International Women’s Day, the initiative aims to move beyond symbolic celebration towards tangible justice delivery and empowerment, reflecting the shared resolve of national and state bodies to create safer and more responsive ecosystems for women.
