The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), for the first time conducted a mock drill on IT blackout & cyber-attack in the state today.
The mock drill was conducted in four locations in the state capital Kohima.
Johnny Ruangmei, OSD (Home) NSDMA addressing the media after the mock drill said that IT blackout and cyber-attack can happen anytime or any day therefore, having this realisation the department felt the need that the mock exercise must be incorporated in order to be able to test its capabilities to address those concerns.
He mentioned that since statehood no major cyber-attack has been reported except some minor incidents of spam.
Speaking on having state’s own Cyber Crime Policies, Raungmei said that key component of CPP is included in the IT Act however, if apart from IT Act if there is a need for CCP of the state the department will look into it.
On query to how well the state is prepared to address if there is any IT blackout or Cyber-attack, he said testing the capabilities and preparedness of the state for any kind of cyber-attack will be to face any eventualities and situation that will come.
“We will not say we are resilient because no nation in the world is resilient to any cyber-attack preparedness and capabilities,” added Raungmei.
Earlier Advisor for New & Renewal energy and NSDMA Nyusietho Nyuthe, delivered a brief keynote address. Observers of the mock drill also gave their feedbacks and suggestions.
The mock drill was conducted in collaboration with Department of Telecommunication, GoI, Dimapur, Department of IT Communication, Nagaland Police, Telecommunication Organization, Cyber Crime PHQ, National Informatics Centre (NIC), NIELIT, Bharat Sanchar Nigham Limited, Nagaland, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, Vodafone Idea Limited and SymBios Creations Private Limited.
