The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, has issued a weather advisory forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall across several districts of the state from September 11 to 14, 2025.
According to the update issued by Sentiwapang Aier, Additional Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected in many areas, while the districts of Chumoukedima, Kiphire, Kohima, Mokokchung, Phek, Shamator, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto are likely to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The authority cautioned that strong winds and lightning could disrupt communication and connectivity. It further warned that lowland and foothill districts such as Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit and Tuli are vulnerable to flash floods and inundation due to heavy precipitation in the hills.
The NSDMA has urged residents to take necessary precautions to avoid loss of life and property. People are advised to keep important documents and valuables secured in safe places, evacuate low-lying areas if instructed by authorities, remain alert for possible gas leaks, and avoid consuming food items that may have been contaminated by floodwaters.
The public has also been cautioned against entering or driving through flooded areas. Electrical appliances should be disconnected and placed above ground level, while water for drinking must be boiled or chlorinated before use. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant about open drain holes and flood channels during this period.
