A tabletop exercise on earthquake scenario was held at ADC Office, Jalukie town on 14 November. The meeting was chaired by SDO (C) Peren, Meyazungba Jamir.
The session was organized by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, Peren, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Auhtority, Ministry of Home Affiars, Government of India.
Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Vineet Kumar, in his keynote address, said the Mock Exercise scheduled to be held on 17 November is a preparedness exercise that aims to create awareness among the stakeholders and general public on how to manage and respond at times of disaster.
He also added that most disasters usually occur abruptly without any signs or warning and the only solution is to develop or devise a preparedness plan.
The DC further called upon the district HODs of line departments to extend their full cooperation and to also execute their assigned duties responsibly.
DPA (DDMA) Peren Kedigong also gave a brief overview of the Incident Response System (IRS), the roles and responsibilities of Incident Response Teams, and the earthquake scenario.
He also informed that the main staging area for the mock exercise would be set up at GHSS Ground, Jalukie town and the sites identified for the exercise will be Christian Hr Sec School, ITMS, St Xavier College, residential areas and market areas.
Kedigong further informed that the dean of Veterinary College and the proprietor of Barial Valley School, Jalukie would be the main observers.
