The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has, on Tuesday, directed all its federating units and sub-ordinate bodies to ‘effectively’ monitor and verify ‘outsiders’ in their respective jurisdiction and submit the census reports within two months from 23 April 2023 as per the ‘resolution adopted at the Emergency Federal Assembly of the Federation held on 22 April 2023’.

The lack of stringent implementation of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) 1873 has made the Naga homeland a safe haven for illegal immigrants, NSF stated, while appealing to the State government establish ‘a robust mechanism to protect all genuine citizens’. The Federation also reiterated its demand for a committee/commission be set up by the government to oversee the implementation of the online Inner Line Permit system in the state.

The Federation added that the ‘overwhelming population of people with questionable identities’ is a major threat to the identity, culture and survival of the Nagas, and threatens ‘to plunge our society into a situation wherein we could become a minority in our own land.’

Expressing its disappointment over the ILP not been implemented strictly, it maintained that the influx of illegal immigrants was the biggest demographic threat to the indigenous inhabitants of the region.

‘To regulate the flow of tourists and control the influx of illegal immigrants through the effective implementation of II.P needs a tough and honest government run by tough and honest leaders, tough and honest bureaucracy backed by tough and honest general public,’ NSF further stated.
