Shillong Lajong FC will be debuting at the prestigious 22nd NSF Martrys’ Memorial Trophy 2022 for the first time on Tuesday.
The team will be playing against Kohima team Dzüluozou FC at IG Stadium Kohima. The match starts at 1pm.
Lajong FC arrived on Sunday morning to the state capital and came for practice at the astro turf pitch on Monday.
This is not the first time that Lajong are in Kohima, having played at the Royal Gold Cup before. However, this will be their first time playing at the NSF Trophy which is in the 22nd edition.
It will be interesting to see how the team fare at the tournament. This edition of the NSF MMT has seen a high number of goals being scored in the first and second round with Red Scars FC scoring the highest (14 goals) against Thepfüko Krotho FC in a single match.
Lajong finished in the fourth position of the Shillong Premier League 2022 and their last major Trophy was Shirui Lily Cup, Manipur in 2021.

Shillong Lajong were the first club from the North East region of India to rise to prominence in the country and the first club to be promoted to India’s top tier I-League, becoming the first ever club from the Northeast of India to play top level professional club football.
The club was established in 1983 with the prime objective of improving the declining standard of football in the state and to spot, train and nurture local talent. The club is four time champions of regional Shillong Premier League.
Lajong have also been known as the torch-bearers of northeastern football for a large part of the decade.
