The Naga Students’ Federation on Tuesday said it has taken strong exception to and objects the mode of examination as notified by the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) wherein the viva-voce component forms 12.5% of the total marks for each group of the advertised vacancies. The federation said this while addressing a press conference at NSF Office, Kohima.
NSF President K Tep, while appreciating the efforts of the newly constituted NSSB, said the federation is apprehensive with the outcome of the advertisement where 12.5% of the marks is allotted for viva-voce stating that this will create room for manipulation in the process of examination.
The federation informed that it has written an objection letter to the Nagaland Chief Secretary to either scrap the interview system in the NSSB or minimise the percentage allotted for viva-voce.
“The newly formed board is going to recruit more than 500 posts in the state of Nagaland and if there is any manipulation or if there are any anomalies in the process of examination in the first cycle of NSSB then it will create lots of misunderstanding where it may even compel the board to collapse,” the federation stated.
We will ensure that the process of examination is conducted in full swing. However, as far as the viva-voce is concerned, the federation will not allow the interview/viva to be conducted unless and until the demand is fulfilled, the federation said.
It reminded that the NSF along with the rest of the student community fought for the NSSB to be constituted and for it to be made operational in the state is to ensure that meritocracy, fairness and transparency is present in the examination process.
Pointing out that the Nagaland State Government has excess appointment in the government sector with no work efficiency, the federation stated that it feels the NSSB is the right board to bring transparency in the system of governance.
The federation informed that in order to ensure all available vacancies are sent to the board so that these will be recruited under the NSSB, the federation had filed an RTI in 64 departments. However, to the dismay of the federation, after receiving the RTI reply from more than 40 departments, the federation claimed that the tally of the available vacancies which was reported through RTI and the vacancies sent to NSSB which comes under the modalities and purview of NSSB did not tally.
The NSF has demanded all the departments to cooperate with the board and the student community for the interest of the student community and to send all the available vacancies which comes under the purview of NSSB so that the examination is conducted under the board. The federation has also alleged that despite repeated call and notifications served by the state government to send the available vacancies to the board, many major departments are yet to send the available vacancies to the board.
