The Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD) organised its 60th Nagas’ Meet on 14th November 2024 at Shah Auditorium, Civil Lines, New Delhi, under the theme “Unity in Perspective: Gathering Youths to Restore Togetherness”, a press release from NSUD informed.
Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest, Awangbow Newmai, Minister of Water Resources and Relief and Disaster Management, Government of Manipur, emphasized on the urgent need for the Naga community to introspect and make wise decisions at this critical juncture. He pointed out that despite increasing educational and professional success, mental weakness, selfishness, and disunity plague our society. He urged the Naga youths to learn from the unity and wisdom of our forefathers, learn to take responsibility for our mistakes, respect our leaders, and work collectively to rebuild trust and cohesion within the community and called upon the youths to abandon the blame culture, embrace shared responsibility, and actively strive for peace and communal strength.
The event’s Keynote Speaker, Prof. Dr Rosemary Dzüvichü (Rtd) stressed on the profound spiritual and cultural calling of the Nagas and the importance of preserving our identity and unity amidst historical challenges such as massacres, human rights violations, and border disputes. She also highlighted the sacrifices of our ancestors and the urgency of rediscovering their core values, spiritual roots, and collective purpose to ensure their legacy. She exhorted that Naga youths must resist external pressures, stay true to our heritage, and act with courage, integrity, and humility, and called for introspection and commitment to building a strong and enduring legacy for future generations.
In the presidential address, Jepi Y Chisho, President of NSUD, enunciated that the Nagas’ Meet is organised every year by the Union to celebrate the sense of community, to reflect on where Nagas stand as a community and as a reminder of why Nagas need to remain together. He lamented at the visible and gradual erosion of unity among the present generation of Nagas and impressed upon every young Naga to make individual efforts to connect with Nagas living beyond their respective boundaries so as to strengthen the sense of togetherness as a community living across multiple borders.
In its greetings message, the office of the Naga Students Federation stated that NSUD’s Nagas Meet is not merely an annual event but a vital platform for young Nagas to come together, exchange ideas, celebrate our culture and build networks that will empower us to face the challenges ahead. The federation assured its support to the NSUD in its efforts to foster a united and thriving Naga community.
The event was graced by the presence of Sapu Bhattacharyya, Director of NEC Energy Pvt. Ltd. As the special guest; Dr. Lorho S Pfoze, former MP, Rajya Sabha, NSN Lotha, former President of Naga Students’ Federation, the Resident Commissioners of Nagaland and Manipur Bhawans, officer from Nagaland Armed Police, SPUNER, Naga Scholars Association, Delhi Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union, Delhi Ao Kaketshir Telongjem, Lotha Students’ Union Delhi and other special invitees.
Hosted by Adeo Dozo and B Christina, the formal session began with a thrilling war dance by a Maring cultural troupe.
The second session, hosted by Levisha Nungchim, witnessed electrifying musical performances by the guest artiste, Sunep Lemtur, and other Naga artistes and bands based in Delhi-NCR who were Ring Dangsha, Susanna C Roel, Awarthanga Chiru, Soul Music Academy and Ihao Music School.
