NTTC conducts Skill Training Program at OTC Yangli

Tuensang: Participants gain valuable hands-on experience, knowledge, and skills in diverse trades

The Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre (NTTC) conducted a five-days Skill Training Program at the Oriental Theological College (OTC) from 12-16 November 2024. The trainers were Thüküngolü Swuro, S Pitoka Achumi, Keriesekho Miasalhou and Vesuto Rhakho.

During this intensive training, 112 participants had the unique opportunity to explore five different trades (Banana Fibre Extraction & Handicrafts, Handmade Paper & Pulp, Waste management (Reduce, Re-use & Recycle), and House Wiring & Maintenance, each designed to equip them with practical skills.

Banana fibre extraction and handicrafts participants learned the process of extracting fibres from banana plants, various techniques to create handicrafts using these fibres. Trainer demonstrated the steps involved in the extraction process, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and resource utilization. Participants actively engaged in hands-on activities, creating beautiful handicrafts and gaining valuable insights.

Participants of handmade paper and pulp production had the opportunity to experiment the paper-making process from pulp preparation to sheet formation alongside highlighted the importance of recycling and sustainable practices in paper production, encouraging participants to explore eco-friendly alternatives. Participants had created their own unique handmade paper, showcasing their newfound expertise in this craft.

Waste Management (Reduce, Re-use & Recycle) participants learned innovative ways to manage waste effectively. Participants were equipped with the knowledge and skills to implement kitchen waste and domestic animals excrement into manure, create durable brooms from plastic bottles waste and making of brick out of polystyrene (thermocol) and waste glass.

House Wiring & Maintenance participants learned to perform basic wiring installations, and safety measures such as Earthing. Hands-on activities allowed participants to practice wiring techniques under the guidance of experienced trainers. Participants had gained valuable insights into house wiring and maintenance.

The 5 days training provided not only valuable skills but also encouraged participants to think creatively and responsibly. The program has equipped participants with the tools to not only improve their lives but also contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable and eco-conscious world.
