NU holds workshop on importance of Altmetrics in research

Lumami: Dr Pranay Punj Pankaj graces event as resource person

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Nagaland University organised a one-day workshop titled “Understanding the Importance of Altmetrics in Research” on 18th September 2024, in the Conference Hall of the Department of Chemistry.

The event was conducted for faculty and scholars from Lumami Campus and featured Dr Pranay Punj Pankaj, Associate Professor in the Department of Zoology, as the resource person, the PRO, NU, Peter Ki informed in a press release.

The PRO also informed that altmetrics are a set of metrics used to measure the broader impact of research and scholarly work online, offering an alternative to traditional citation-based metrics. They help researchers track how their work is being discussed, shared, and engaged with by the public, academics, and other audiences through social media, news outlets, blogs, and other online platforms, he added.

The workshop saw enthusiastic participation from a total of 90 attendees including Prof. Dipak Sinha, Director of IQAC, HoDs, faculty, staff and students.
