NU hosts Farewell Programme for Prof. Rosemary Dzüvichü and Prof. N.D.R. Chandra

Nagaland University Kohima Campus, Meriema organised a farewell programme in honour of Prof. Rosemary Dzüvichü and Prof. N.D.R. Chandra, both from the Department of English, on the 31st May 2024 informed a press release by PRO, Nagaland University.

Chaired by Dr. Lemtila Alinger, the programme started with a special song from 2nd Semester MA students. Speeches were delivered by Prof. N. Das, faculty members, research scholars and MA students. The retiring professors also shared about their experiences in Nagaland University.

It may be mentioned that Prof. Rosemary Dzuvichu has held significant positions at Nagaland University, serving as the Director of the Women Studies Centre, Coordinator of the Centre for Mass Communication, Head of the Department of English, and a member of the Executive Council. She is an alumna of the Thomson Foundation Fellowship in the UK with the British High Commission and the IVLP fellowship in the USA sponsored by the US State Department. Additionally, she has contributed to higher education as a UGC Standing Committee member for establishing Women Studies Centres nationwide and as a former Expert Member on North East for the National Commission for Women. Her involvement extends to serving as a former member of the Advisory Board for Peace and Conflict Studies and as a Jury Member on the World Court of Women. With a teaching career spanning back to 1982, Prof. Dzuvichu has supervised numerous PhD and MPhil scholars, mentoring a total of 14 doctoral candidates and 14 M.Phil scholars.

Prof. N.D.R. Chandra has an acclaimed career, serving as a Professor of English at Nagaland (Central) University, Kohima Campus since 2003. He held the position of Vice-Chancellor at Bastar University, Jagdalpur from 2013 to 2016 and has been In-charge VC & Pro-VC at NU. Dr. Chandra also served as UGC Visiting Professor at Dr. H.S. Gour University, Sagar, in 2006 and as an Adjunct Professor at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, from 2018 to 2020.

His academic journey includes significant roles such as Dean, School of Humanities & Education, Campus In-charge, Head & Chairman of the Department of English at NU. Prof. Chandra has received accolades such as the Scholar of Eminence, Life-Line International Peace Award, Dr. Radhakrishnan EducationExcellence Award, and a Lifetime Achievement Award, among others. With his extensive experience in educational development over the past 35 years, Prof. Chandra has made much contributions to higher education, NSS, and fundraising for natural disaster victims. He is recognised for his initiatives, including the  establishment of new departments, Ph.D. programs, and the implementation of curriculum reforms. Prof. Chandra’s strategic efforts have led to the growth and development of the universities he has been associated with, exemplified by successful convocations, program implementations, and infrastructure expansions.
