Nagaland University joined the rest of the country in celebrating the 77th Republic Day across its campuses. At Lumami, Prof JK Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, hoisted the National flag in the presence of Dr Abemo (Registrar), Er Yanrenthung Ezung (CoE & Finance Officer In-charge), Directors, Deans, HoDs, Faculty, Officers, Administrative Staff, Research Scholars and students.

Prof Patnaik in his Republic Day message, dwelt on rapid progress made by India despite numerous challenges. Stating that India today stands as an emerging global power, with its purchasing power position among the world’s leading economies well established and aspiring to become a multi-trillion-dollar economy, in which every citizen will have a rightful share.

Noting that India has been faced with global challenges in the form of trade barriers, tariffs, and other non-security economic pressures, he emphasized the need to overcome them through determination, clarity of thought, sustained effort, and the courage to face adversity.

He also dwelt on the Constitution that continues to be our guiding light, evolving with time to meet the needs of changing circumstances. With limited resources in the initial years after independence, the leadership at that time adopted development strategies navigating those constraints and laid a strong foundation for future growth through cooperation between the state and private leadership.

He said the founding fathers, through the Constituent Assembly, worked tirelessly to bring harmony, peace, and participation in the nation-building process that continues today even after more than 77 years. National integration, he asserted, has been possible because of the Constitution of India, which is one of the longest and most unique in the world guaranteeing equality, fundamental rights, and dignity to every citizen, while also emphasizing duties.

He also highlighted the changes and development in Nagaland University over the last three years, with emphasis on strengthening the academic, administrative, and infrastructure ecosystem. The vision, he said, is to transform the academic environment, including research, publications, and the teaching learning system, with the National Education Policy (NEP) providing an opportunity to reform academic and administrative structures.

He lauded the efforts of officers, Heads of Departments, and staff for playing a significant role in implementing reforms. He pointed to the University’s strong performance in resource generation and mobilization. He concluded by stating that effective leadership depends on involvement, accessibility, and understanding of people’s needs coupled with integrity, honesty, dedication, and commitment.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks from Peter Ki, the PRO of Nagaland University.
