Nagaland University has announced the successful participation of its M.Sc. Biotechnology students in a two-week National Skill Development and Hands-on Training Programme on Quality Control of Biologicals, conducted at the National Institute of Biologicals under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare from March 9 to March 20.
A total of ten postgraduate students from the Department of Biotechnology, Nagaland University, accompanied by Prof. Pranav Kumar Prabhakar, HoD of the Dept of Biotechnology, attended the programme alongside participants from Mizoram University. The training was aimed at strengthening practical knowledge and technical skills in the field of quality control of biological products, a critical component of modern healthcare and biopharmaceutical industries.
The programme offered a well-structured blend of expert lectures and intensive hands-on laboratory training. Participants were introduced to key areas such as Laboratory Quality Management Systems (LQMS), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), biosafety guidelines, regulatory requirements for biologicals and biosimilars, molecular diagnostics, and recombinant DNA technology. Advanced topics including CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing and therapeutic applications of monoclonal antibodies were also covered.

During the training, students gained hands-on experience in state-of-the-art laboratories, including vaccine and antisera testing, immunodiagnostics, molecular diagnostics, in-vivo bioassay, biochemical kit evaluation, and bacterial endotoxin testing. Exposure to advanced analytical techniques such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC), electrophoresis, and cell culture further enhanced their practical competencies.
The programme commenced with an inaugural session and concluded with a valedictory ceremony at NIB, where participants reflected on their learning experiences. The students expressed that the training significantly enriched their understanding of real-world laboratory practices and helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
Nagaland University acknowledges and appreciates the efforts of the National Institute of Biologicals for organizing such a comprehensive and impactful training programme. The University remains committed to promoting skill development, research excellence, and industry-relevant education among its students.
This participation marks another step forward in enhancing the academic and research capabilities of Nagaland University students, preparing them to contribute effectively to the fields of biotechnology, healthcare, and life sciences.
