NUKC conducts programme on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

Nagaland University, Kohima Campus (NUKC) conducted a program on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) on August 22 at the Ladies Common Room, NUKC as a part of the nationwide campaign addressing substance abuse initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.

Prof N Venuh, Pro-Vice Chancellor, NUKC in his keynote address emphasised on the importance of will power and that all individuals ought to be careful not to indulge in substance abuse that deteriorates one’s health.

He also urged the gathering to make aware not to sideline but to encourage them for a healthier living. In addition, he encouraged the NUKC community to engage and involve in healthy discussions, co-curricular activities creating a way to socialize for overall health. He also stressed on the importance of sharing, caring and helping one another rather than suppressing one’s emotions and experiences leading to depression and other anxiety issues.

The opening remark was delivered by Dr Takujungla Jamir, CMO (SAG), NUKC wherein she highlighted the hazardous impact of drug abuse on physical and mental health. Dr. Jamir emphasized on the importance of educating and creating awareness whilst also creating a safe support system.

She announced the opening of the anticipated Counselling Cell at the University Health Centre in collaboration with the Department of Psychology.

The program included speeches from students’ perspectives delivered by Sakilur Rahman, President of NURSF and Micah Diamai, Dept. of CSE, NUSU.

Dr Teisovi Angami, Department of Information Technology chaired the session and the program ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Arenkala Ao, Department of Linguistics. A special number was performed by Menuotuolie James, Department of English. The program was attended by teaching staff, scholars and students of NUKC.

Previously on August 13, NUKC also observed the National event of NMBA, “Mass Pledge against Drug Abuse” witnessing an active participation by faculties, scholars and students.
