An awareness programme on Oak Tasar Sericulture was held at Kobulong on July 21, jointly organized by the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and the Department of Sericulture, Nagaland.
The programme aimed to promote oak tasar silkworm farming as a sustainable livelihood option for local farmers. Dr. Ravi Kumara R, Scientist-B, Central Silk Board, highlighted the Mera Resham Mera Abhiman (MRMA) initiative, a national programme launched by the Ministry of Textiles to ensure effective technology transfer in sericulture through district-level adoption models.
Kumara and Immonger Pongen, Assistant Sericulture Officer, have been appointed as district
nodal officers for Mokokchung to implement the MRMA initiative.

Emphasizing Mokokchung’s potential for oak tasar sericulture, Dr. Kumara noted the abundance of naturally grown oak trees and the district’s favourable climate.
The programme saw active participation from officials of both the Central Silk Board and the state Sericulture department, underlining their joint commitment to developing the sericulture sector in the region.
