In preparation for the monsoon season, the Old Ministers Hill Panchayat, Kohima has notified its residents to immediately address the issue of obstructed drainage caused by water pipes in the drains/culverts of the colony.
In a press release, the Panchayat stated that it is crucial to take swift action in clearing the drains and ensuring the unobstructed flow of rainwater and drain water. It also expressed disappointment that pipes continue to hinder the proper functioning of the drainage system despite the previous notice.

The Old Ministers Hill Panchayat has called upon all owners/consumers of PHE/private water pipes to comply with the following directives within 30 days from the date of this notification:
1. Remove all water pipes that are currently obstructing the drains/culverts in the colony
2. Take necessary measures to ensure that the drains are free from any obstacles that may
impede the smooth passage of rainwater and drain water
3. Cooperate with the Panchayat authority and actively participate in maintaining a healthy
and clean environment for all residents
The Panchayat stated that it will take necessary action against defaulters, which may include removing or cutting off the obstructing water pipes from the specified location.
In its statement, the Panchayat asserted that it “emphasizes the importance of safeguarding the well-being of the community and urges all residents/ neighbour’s colonies to play an active role in maintaining a hygienic and safe living environment. Clearing the drains and ensuring their unobstructed flow is essential to prevent waterlogging, potential diseases, and other related issues.”
