The Department of English, Kohima Science College Jotsoma, organised a one-day orientation and training session on First Aid for 1st Semester students on Saturday, September 21, 2024. The training, held in the college’s Conference Hall, was conducted in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch (IRCSN), as part of the Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) under the Four-year Undergraduate Program (FYUGP) of NEP 2020.
The special guest for the event, Akhale V. Khamo, General Secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch, provided a concise history of the Red Cross movement, explaining its founding by Henry Dunant, its core humanitarian principles, and the key initiatives of the Nagaland State Branch, including disaster relief and community service. She also highlighted the critical importance of First Aid skills for everyday emergencies and encouraged active participation in blood donation drives to save lives.

The program commenced with an introductory session chaired by Dr. Seyiekhrielie Whiso, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of English. In her welcome address, Moasangla, Vice Principal of Kohima Science College, expressed gratitude to the IRCSN for collaborating on this essential training initiative. She reiterated the importance of First Aid training in equipping students with practical skills that go beyond the classroom.
Following the introduction of the resource persons, the practical session commenced at the Language Laboratory. Kholie Dolf, Managing Committee Member of IRCSN and Master Trainer, led the students in a hands-on training session on First Aid techniques.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, delivered by Mungyani Yanthan, CR of 1st Semester. She expressed her appreciation to the resource persons and the Department of English for organising the insightful and practical training.
This training was an essential part of the Skill Enhancement Course, aligning with the goals of NEP 2020 to provide holistic education and equip students with life-saving skills.
