Tirap: OGW confesses to extortion charges during on spot interrogation

6 Assam Rifles and Tirap Police have arrested one Myanmarese over ground worker (OGW) of NSCN-K (YA) for alleged extortion at Sumsipathar village general area under Deomali Sub-Division in Tirap District, Arunachal Pradesh on 1 November 2023.

The apprehended person is said to be one Pelei Khangnyakam (25 years) of Khamoi village under Sagaiang region, Myanmar.

The joint security forces informed that the NSCN-K (YA) OGW was arrested during an extortion attempt and on spot interrogation, the Myanmarese national confessed to the charges of extortion.

“OGW Shri Pelei Khangnyakam confessed that he has provided logistics and ration support to SS Capt.Rocky Thapa and his group during their stay at Khamoi village, Myanmar in the month of August’2023. He further admitted that he was involved and has assisted Rocky Thapa in extorting Rs 45,000/- money from Lamlo village of Deomali Sub-Division during August’2023,” the statement said.

Accordingly, the NSCN-K (YA) OGW was arrested in connection with Lamlo extortion case at Deomali Police Station, Tirap, under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA Act) registered on 14 September 2023.

One extortion note in the name of Rocky Thapa, 3 nos of live 7.62 mm ammunition and one mobile phone were recovered from Khangnyakam.
