The inaugural program of the Ongjinaro Festival organized by the Mopungchuket Community Tourism Society (MCTS) took place today at Süngkotenem Park, Mopungchuket Village, Mokokchung. Tsukti Longkumer, President of the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI), served as the Chief Guest.
In his address, Tsukti Longkumer commended the MCTS for their initiative, emphasizing its positive impact on the business community and the overall economy. He expressed gratitude to Limalenden, the Convenor of MCTS, for his continuous contributions to MCCI.
Discussing the Ongjinaro Festival, Longkumer highlighted its potential to boost tourism in the district and the state. He underscored the significance of the tourism industry, stating that it is three times larger than the automobile industry globally.
Longkumer acknowledged the challenge of road connectivity as a hindrance to tourism, emphasizing that tourists include not only international visitors but also people from nearby areas. He encouraged the community to promote tourism by showcasing the village’s beauty and extending hospitality to visitors.
Referring to Mopungchuket’s status as a tourism village, Longkumer urged reflection on how well-prepared the community is to welcome tourists. He drew examples from his global travels, urging the villagers to contribute to tourism through their efforts while maintaining authenticity.
Longkumer emphasized the importance of offering a distinctive experience to tourists and encouraged the community to focus on various types of tourism, such as eco, commercial, wildlife, and heritage tourism. In conclusion, he highlighted the time and effort required to nurture and achieve success in the tourism industry, urging the community to work hard and showcase their initiatives to the world.

Limalenden Longkumer, Convenor of MCTS, welcomed attendees, expressing the festival’s purpose to uplift Mopungchuket Tourism and contribute to Nagaland Tourism. He encouraged villagers to explore business and medical opportunities related to the Ongjinaro’ plant, scientifically known as Sarcandra glabra emphasizing the need for cultivation and preservation. Limalenden thanked MCCI for their support and challenged them to contribute to festival opportunities like the Hornbill Festival in the Mokokchung District as well.
The event witnessed a special performance from Moatsung Longkumer, blessings from Sungjemrenba, Associate Pastor Youth, MBA and greetings from the Mopungchuket Village Council.
