The Wokha Town Council inaugurated Open Market, WTC Daily Market on August 6, 2025 at the new market site, with Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, NCS (Retd.), MLA of 38 Wokha A/C, gracing the occasion as the Special Guest.

In his address, MLA Humtsoe highlighted the significance of the newly inaugurated market and remarked that it is more than a physical structure, it is a shared public asset belonging to every citizen.

He urged the people to use the market responsibly, maintain its cleanliness, and view it as a symbol of collective unity and growth. “When people come together with a shared sense of purpose and pride, even small beginnings can become models for others to follow,” he said.

He called upon all sections of society to support the council’s initiatives and take ownership of public infrastructures like the market, ensuring they are well-utilised and preserved for the greater good.

Executive Officer of WTC and ADC Wokha, Renbomo Ezung, in his brief speech, acknowledged the financial constraints faced by the council but lauded the proactive efforts of the councillors in bringing the open vendor sheds to fruition despite the limitations. He pointed out that while government assistance is crucial, community participation is equally vital in driving development forward.

Ezung cautioned against the misuse of limited resources and urged both citizens and colony chairpersons to ensure the newly provided sheds are well-maintained and properly utilised. He reiterated that the market infrastructure should be viewed as a shared community asset, the success and sustainability of which depends on a collective and responsible approach.

The inaugural programme was chaired by Khozamo Lotha, Chairperson of WTC. The formal dedication began with a ribbon cutting and unveiling ceremony by the special guest. Invocation was offered by Y. Yanbemo Kithan, Deacon, followed by a Welcome Address by Nzano P. Kikon, Deputy Chairperson, WTC.
