Organisations commend Kohima Police, demand public safety measures and forensic lab in Kohima

Following the recent breakthrough of the October 24 murder case by the Kohima Police, several organisations has commended the investigation team for their prompt and effective action. The organisations also appealed the government to strengthen public safety measures and to set up the much needed Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in the capital.

Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Council (AKMWC)

Lauding the Kohima Police for their professional investigation in solving the murder case, the Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Council (AKMWC) has appealed to the Kohima Police / SIT to leave no stone unturned in exposing the  perpetrators and sentencing them to stringent punishment as per the law of the land.

The Council also expressed serious concern over the adoption issue by many Nagas and called upon every citizens to think twice before adopting non – indigenous Nagas. “This present case is a big eye opener, reminding the Nagas about the story of ‘The Old Woman and the Ungrateful Snake’* repaying by its venomous bite rather than gratitude,” stated the Council.

It also reiterated Its demand to the government to set up the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Kohima at the earliest with adequate expertise  to promptly respond to the call for any degree of crimes committed and professionally investigate to deliver justices in time.

Angami Women Organisation (AWO)

The Angami Women Organisation (AWO) commended the Kohima Police and its Special Investigation Team (SIT) for their prompt and dedicated efforts in arresting the prime accused in the brutal murder of Vihozhonu Zao on October 24.

While appreciating the crucial breakthrough, AWO strongly urged the police to continue their investigation with utmost sincerity and determination, and to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the full truth and ensuring that all those involved, directly or indirectly, are brought to justice.

With the alarming rise in crimes against women, AWO strongly emphasised on the urgent need to strengthen public safety measures within Kohima and beyond. It urged the government to install CCTV cameras in all critical and vulnerable areas to deter crime and aid swift investigation when incidents occur, and also serve as a preventive and investigative tool in protecting our citizens, especially women and children.

Further, AWO stressed the immediate need for setting up a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in the state capital.

“The recent incident has once again brought to light how the absence of such crucial infrastructure delays the progress of justice. Establishing an FSL will not help the investigators to act swiftly but also ensure the accuracy and credibility of evidence, enabling timely and fair prosecution of offenders,” stated the organisation.

Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO)

Commending the Nagaland Police for their prompt action in apprehending the accused, the Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) acknowledged the professionalism of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by the SP Kohima, Krodi Rhetso, and headed by Additional S.P. K. Soriso along with their colleagues. The organisation also thanked all organizations, individuals, and well-wishers for their unwavering support and steadfast solidarity.

“Your collective resolve and relentless efforts have played a crucial role in bringing the culprit to justice. We call upon all organization and citizens to unite with unwavering determination in the pursuit of justice, peace, and humanity. Together, we can stand resilient against violence and ensure that our society upholds the dignity and sanctity of every human life,” stated the SAPO.

Yimkhiung Youth Organization (YYO)

In a condemnation letter, the Yimkhiung Youth Organization (YYO) expressed outrage over the brutal murder of the 22 years old, Late Vihozhonu Zao, who was tragically killed on October 25 in Kohima Town.

The YYO strongly condemned the act of violence and unequivocally demanded capital punishment for the perpetrator. It called upon the police and judicial authorities to leave no stone unturned in their relentless pursuit of justice, ensuring that the accused is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

It also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by the young officer Soriso Yimkhiung NPS, Additional SP Kohima, for their exemplary work in solving the case promptly.

“We stand in solidarity with Late Vihozhonu’s family and all those grieving this tragic loss. The YYO reiterates its unwavering commitment to justice and the fight against crimes that endanger our youth and community,” expressed the organisation.
