Oriental College Kohima flagged off its three-day Annual Sports Meet today at D Khel Ground, Seikhazou.
Dr Kekhrie Yhome, Chairman, Nagaland Building and Other Workers Welfare Board (NBOCWWB), Government of Nagaland, attended the programme as the Special Guest.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr Yhome appreciated the effort the college had made to organise the Annual Sports Meet. Noting that times have changed and we are living a fast-paced lifestyle, he emphasised on the importance of sports, fitness, smart living and smart thinking in this rapidly changing and competitive world.
He further advised the students to take up the Sports Meet not just as a three-day event but as an opportunity to consider sports as a career.
Dr Ketshukietuo Dzüvichü, Principal of Oriental College, gave the keynote address in which he first thanked God for his blessings for the Annual Sports Meet to be organised. He also thanked the Chief Guest for the love and concern shown in spite his busy schedule.
Dr Dzüvichü said the three-day sports activities are also a part of the Silver Jubilee Celebration. He also urged the players to inculcate the right sportsman spirit, to take the opportunity that is given to the students to excel and to expose their hidden talents through the three-day sports event with the willingness to participate and grow. He wished all the players the best and to have a meaningful and fruitful event.
The yearlong silver jubilee celebration of the college was formally launched on 25 April by Rev Dr Putsato Naleo, former Executive Secretary, Angami Christian Revival Church Council (ACRCC).
The mega event commenced with the March Past of the four different houses where the students marched in contingent to the beat of the Ladies Pipers Band from Kohima Village.
The administration of oath was led by Dziesetseizo Neichu, Games and Sports Secretary, OCKSU.
The programme was chaired by Changsie, General Secretary OCKSU while Laisangd, the president of the Evangelical Union, invoked God’s blessings upon the Sports Meet.
A special number was presented by Sedevituo Solo.
The first event started off with the 100m race for both men and women. Kevirudo (White House) bagged the gold medal followed by Kethosilie (Blue House) and Thenuozelhou (Blue) winning silver and bronze respectively.
In the women’s 100 m race Avoshelu (Blue House) won the gold medal followed by Veyevolu (White House) with silver and Chinkin (Red House) bronze.
The medals and certificates were presented by the Special Guest. Track and field events continued for the rest of the day.
