Oriental College Kohima observed World Suicide Prevention Day under the theme “Creating Hope through Action” in collaboration with the National Mental Health Program, National Health Mission, and Carl Roger’s Institute of Mental Health and Research Center.
Delivering the keynote address, Kevichübei-ü Rutsa emphasized that the development of suicidal tendencies is often a gradual process and can be treated with timely intervention. She noted that one does not need to be an expert to extend help, as even a simple word of encouragement can make a difference.
Highlighting the global concern, she reminded that suicide is the fourth leading cause of death among youth worldwide.
As part of the program, students participated in a questionnaire on suicidal ideation to foster self-awareness and early identification of risks. A Poster competition was also held in line with the occasion and Bemang C Konyak of B.Com 1st Semester was judged the 1st position.
Kevikho Kire of BA 5th Semester and Neihunuo Puro of BA 3rd Semester was judged 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

The programme was chaired by Seiveinai. Ahrienuo Chietsu, Assistant Professor, Department of English, OCK pronounced the invocation. Dr Watinaro Longkumer, Principal, OCK delivered the Presidential address. A special number was witnessed from Keduosenuo BA 1st Semester.
