The Oriental College Kohima has announced that the 6th edition of the Oriental College Skill Fest will take place from 28 to 30 October 2024.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, Principal, Dr. Khriezhünuo Dzüvichü underscored the significance of the Skill Fest as a unique initiative of the college, highlighting its role as a crucial platform for students to learn and showcase their skills across various fields. She noted that the event has gained considerable recognition over the years.

Dr. Dzüvichü explained that each year, the college offers training in 10 to 12 skill trades, aiming to prepare students for success and independence after graduation. The Skill Fest exemplifies the college’s commitment to enhancing student capacity and skillsets, providing valuable experience to all students.

She expressed pride in the college’s graduates, stating they leave not just as students but as capable individuals ready to launch their own ventures. Unlike many institutions that focus solely on academic qualifications, Oriental College distinguishes itself by offering comprehensive skill training that empowers students for real-world success, the Principal added.

Further, she informed that the College will be collaborating with the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission, the Department of Land Resources, the Department of Horticulture, and several local entrepreneurs for this year’s fest. Dr. Dzüvichü hoped that the event will significantly contribute to societal growth and tackle socio-economic issues such as unemployment and dependence on government support. She affirmed the college’s proactive approach in equipping students with essential tools for their futures.

Convener Vizotuo Thorie provided an overview of the Skill Fest, outlining its goals to explore and enhance student skills, promote independent living, and improve workforce productivity and employability. He said that the fest aims to offer training, support, and guidance to all students, fostering confidence and collaboration that positively impacts the college, homes, and the wider community.

This year’s featured trades will include mushroom cultivation, basket making, bamboo work, carpentry, electrical fittings, beauty and wellness, embroidery, knitting and weaving, as well as baking and cooking classes.
