A community get-together and orientation programme for the North East Constructors (NEC) road construction team was held at Zinki river Camp, Kiusam, on the theme “One Team, One Goal”. Hosted by St John Catholic Church, Kiusam, the event brought together NEC managers, supervisors, and workers with local church members to foster encouragement, solidarity, and spiritual support for the team building vital road connectivity in the Tikhir region.
The programme commenced with a welcome address Shri Teisovilie Rupreo, in-charge of NEC at the site. He expressed gratitude for the community’s gesture, noting that many workers are far from home and working under commitment.
The gathering featured a prayer dance by children of St John Church Kiusam (SJCK), followed by party games, special item by Simon Anar and group song presented by the women of the SJCK. The event created space for interaction between the construction team and local youth, women, and men who came together to pray for the workers’ safety, morale, and wellbeing. Church members emphasized their intent to encourage, support, and respect the leadership of NEC while promoting mutual cooperation among all ranks.
Addressing the gathering, Rev Fr Thomas Toretkiu, Priest in charge, lauded the NEC team’s contribution to the region. “Truly your team is a blessing to our Tikhir area, giving us a road connection which a generation will never forget,” he said.

Reflecting on the company’s structure, Fr Toretkiu noted, “NEC has a system: a leader who leads, and workers who cooperate. Supervisors and managers translate that direction into plans. And at the foundation, we have workers who execute, who deliver, who cooperate with leaders to get the job done.”
He further acknowledged the human challenges faced on large projects, citing issues like drunk driving, internal misunderstandings, and human imperfection. “Therefore, in such a big company, teamwork with trust, responsibility, and rectification is demanded. These values come from God, called faith,” he said.
“Honesty, sincerity, and responsibility are not company slogans but personal tools.” Quoting scripture, he added, “As Jesus says, ‘Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them’ (John 7:38). Our life here on earth is a process from error to refine ourselves and be gone to God. Let us do our best where and whatever we do, let us do for the common good.”
The orientation-cum-get-together was described as a historic moment for NEC, with the St John’s community extending mental, moral, and spiritual support to the workforce. The programme highlighted the importance of unity between the construction team and host community, stressing that infrastructure growth must be matched by mutual respect and shared purpose.
The event concluded with the words of thanks from Akho and a mass prayer for the safety and success of the project and all personnel involved.
