Orientation programme for KPC-NBOCWWB Media Fellowship 2025 conducted

An orientation programme for the newly selected media fellows of the KPC-NBOCWWB (Kohima Press Club-Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board) 2025 including Chizokho Vero from Kohima, Shongmo B from Noklak and Yarden Jamir from Mokokchung was held today at KPC Office Kohima.

During the programme, President of Kohima Press Club, Alice Yhoshü highlighted that this is the 4th edition of the media fellowship and acknowledged the NBOCWWB for envisioning the state’s only media fellowship that has over the years, produced stories from across the state primarily focussing on one of the most sidelined sectors.

T Chubayanger, CEO of NBOCWWB remarked that the fellowship stories have really impacted people’s lives by highlighting the challenges and living condition of construction workers.

Stating that when it is written down, it becomes a real story, he also noted that it is not only benefitting our people but also helped the Board to march on a faster pace and giving a clearer picture of what they are doing.

He stated that, “basing on the stories you have brought out, we have made so many changes” while citing that they have also made improvisation of the schemes they have as the fellowship has brought out stories highlighting the grievances, challenges and the heartbeat of people in the construction industry.

He expressed confidence to continue the media fellowship in the years to come and also revealed that a book documenting the stories as a result of the fellowship would be published.

Convenor of the Media Fellowship, Vishü Rita Krocha recalled that the fellowship was conceived and initiated in the year 2022 while terming it as the beginning of a journey that unfolded many remarkable stories in the construction industry.

She remarked that the fellowship has not only empowered the society, but also given an opportunity and enabled journalists from Nagaland to explore the vulnerable aspects of people working in the construction sector. Stating that it has further unleashed the hidden potentials of the media fellows, she said, journalists also get the exquisite joy of getting a special grant to write stories that are impactful and goes beyond regular reporting.

As a former media fellow, Reyivolü Rhakho shared her experience of being able to tell the stories of one of the most vulnerable sectors in the society. She said it was an opportunity where journalists could focus their attention on the construction industry.

The fellows of 2025, Chizokho Vero, Shongmo B and Yarden Jamir also shared their thoughts on embarking on the fellowship while stating appreciation to the Kohima Press Club and NBOCWWB for the opportunity to tell stories of people working in a much neglected area.

The fellows echoed that it was not just a professional opportunity but that they would take the assignment as a mission, to tell stories that matter.

During the orientation programme, there was Signing of Agreement and handing over of pre-payment amount to the three selected fellows by the CEO of NBOCWWB.
