The outdoor gym project at Raj Bhavan Kohima was inaugurated on May 7, by Dr. Tseilhoutuo Ato Rhutso, MLA, 9th Kohima Town AC as the special guest
The project has been Initiated under the LAPD 2024–2025 , marking a significant step toward promoting health and community well-being in Kohima.
In his speech, Dr. Rhutso emphasized that the project was conceptualized with the public in mind, stating that this facility is for everyone. He encouraged citizens to take initiative in societal development rather than relying solely on the government.
Dr. Rhutso also announced an upcoming initiative, “One Rupee for Change,”urging residents to contribute ₹1 daily towards city development stating that if they collect 1 rs per day it amounts up to Rs.365 per year and if the whole society works together, they can make a big difference in development of the city. He informed that under the project a dedicated account will be opened, managed by a committee, to ensure transparency and proper utilization of funds for maintenance and urban improvement.
The MLA also stressed on the importance of preserving public property and fostering a sense of collective responsibility.

Lauding the project, Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem said, “Health is wealth, and this initiative will greatly benefit our community”. The DC also commended Dr. Rhutso’s visionary leadership, calling him an inspiration, and urged citizens to work towards a cleaner, more developed, and prosperous Kohima.
The project also included a small gym installed at the Mental Hospital in Aradura, underscoring the importance of supporting mental health infrastructure with dignity and encouraging physical well-being for patients. Plans are also underway to construct a pay-and-use toilet at the outdoor gym – a move aimed at promoting hygiene and creating employment opportunities for local youth.
The event began with the unveiling of the inaugural stone by Dr. Rhutso, followed by invocation and blessings by Pastor Sounyi, CRC Manipur .
Azo Khemio, Youth President of Officers’ Hill delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the MLA and stakeholders for their efforts in enhancing the colony’s development and community welfare.
The program was chaired by Dr. Keviseto Kintso marking a significant step towards Kohima’s progress.
