The Commissioner & Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, extended a heartfelt acknowledgment to all officers of the Department of Health & Family Welfare for their unwavering support and cooperation during his 8-month tenure as Commissioner & Secretary. Sema highlighted the collaborative efforts that yielded significant achievements for the welfare of Nagaland’s people.
A standout accomplishment within this short timeframe was the successful implementation of the 10BedICU project, valued at over Rs 35 crore, across all 12 District Hospitals. The project’s success was enabled by the eGov Foundation’s support and notable individuals like Vinod Khosla from California, USA; Nandan Nilekani, Chairman UIDAI, and Srikanth Nadhamuni, Chairman of the 10BedICU Project. The project was overseen by eGov Foundation’s Director, Bisoya Loitongbam, and her team, who provided continuous guidance and support.

NSACS launches 4 mobile ICTC vans for four districts
Additionally, 12 Mobile ICTC Vans for HIV & AIDS testing were distributed to District Hospitals in collaboration with the Director General of the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Government of India. The establishment of an HIV Viral Load Lab at NHAK resolved the challenge of sending blood samples for distant testing, benefiting Nagaland’s residents.
Numerous other achievements were spotlighted, such as the declaration of “No Tobacco Zones” in all Government and Private Hospitals, Health Institutions, and Schools statewide. The establishment of new Food Testing Laboratories in multiple districts was also celebrated.
The imminent launch of two new 30 Bedded Ayush Hospitals and the upcoming commencement of a Medical College in September 2023 were hailed as noteworthy milestones. The allocation of a substantial number of MBBS, BDS, and other medical seats further expanded educational opportunities for aspiring medical professionals.

Sema expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, former Minister of H&FW S. Pangnyu Phom, current Minister of H&FW P. Paiwang Konyak, senior officers, and H&FW staff for their support. He thanked dedicated healthcare workers for their unwavering commitment during the COVID-19 pandemic challenges. Sema’s tenure was marked by officers and staff going beyond regular hours to ensure initiative success.
As Sema prepares to transition from his position, he conveyed confidence in his successor, V Kezo, and urged ongoing cooperation from department officers and staff to further advance healthcare and family welfare goals in Nagaland.
