Honorary Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav, Param Veer Chakra (retd) visited Sainik School, Punglwa, Peren district on 2 April 2023 as part of Purvottar Bharat Parikrama Car Rally.
The motivational visit was organised by Jalukie Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(North) and in collaboration with the school with the objective to encourage young students to join the Indian Armed Forces and serve the country.

During the visit and interaction with students from Assam Rifles Public School, Jalukie and Sainik School Punglwa, the decorated soldier with highest gallantry award of India highlighted various opportunities that come with joining the Indian Armed Forces, including opportunity to serve the nation and make a positive impact on society.
Captain Yadav also spoke about the rigorous training that soldiers undergo and how it prepares them to face any situation with bravery and courage.
Subedar Major (Honorary captain) Yogendra Singh Yadav, PVC is the youngest person ever to be awarded the highest gallantry decoration of the country during wartime, the Param Vir Chakra, at 19 years old.
He was conferred with the award for his specific act of gallantry on 4 July 1999 when he volunteered to lead a Ghatak commando platoon of 18 GRENADIERS that was tasked with capturing three strategic bunkers on Tiger Hill during the Kargil War. His actions led to the capture of major features of the Tiger Hill complex by 18 GRENADIERS.
He survived with 15 bullet injuries, two hand-grenade wounds and an arm hanging from tendons and skin.

The lecture was attended by 46 students and 6 teachers of ARPS, Jalukie and 400 students and teachers of the Sainik School. The soldier’s inspirational words inspired many students, who expressed their interest in pursuing a career in the Indian Armed Forces after hearing his testimony.
