Patkai Christian college (Autonomous) observes World day of Social Justice

The World Day of Social Justice was commemorated in Patkai Christian college (Autonomous) organised by the Department of Philosophy held under the theme “Dismantling systemic barriers” on February 20.

Held at Bundrock Chapel, the Speaker for the event was Rupin Sharma, IPS, DGP Government of Nagaland.

In his speech, the Nagaland DGP spoke on how the youngsters can bring change in the world, than the older population. Emphasizing that  society or culture does not grow in the absence of justice, Sharma viewed that progress can emerge when society engages in discourse of diverse narratives and finding a common ground. The DGP also reflected on the tragic reality in society today where people rarely raises concerns for rights and justice.

Sharma also delved on the issue of customary laws expressing his views that essential customary laws must be preserved, however one must do away with malpractices of old customary laws. He advocated that the need to educate younger generations towards this end.

The IPS also expressed that modern law brings equality where most of it aims at removing the barriers of the society with economic development. Education will be able to remove the barriers soon, said Sharma.

He encouraged the students to look at things with optimism. “Every change that take place have its positive and negative sides, it just depends on oneself- where do we take part in,” stated Sharma urging the gathering to always choose what is right.

Earlier,  the programme was chaired by Dr.Vikholienuo Kire, and invocation was pronounced by Rev.Vichukho Ngukha. The welcome note was delivered by Dr.Thepfuvilie Pieru, Principal of PCC, while the keynote address was presented Dr.Wojanbeni S.Yanthan, and special performance by MSSM singers. This was followed by the vote of thanks by Bendang, HOD (Philosophy), and benediction by Neivono Vupru, Dean of social justice.
