Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister and in-charge of Home, Y Patton, visited the Ralan area in Wokha district and Niuland today to assess the ground situation in light of ongoing eviction drives being carried out across the border in Assam. The visit comes amid growing unease among local residents about a potential influx of illegal immigrants into Nagaland.

In Ralan, Patton noted that these eviction drives have caused unease among residents in Wokha who fear that such movements could lead to an influx of illegal immigrants into Nagaland.

Taking to social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Patton informed that he held a public meeting at Liphanyan village during his visit, where community members voiced their concerns and shared their apprehensions. “ It’s important to recognize that this issue goes beyond state lines—it is a national matter,” he posted.

To strengthen security in the sensitive border belt, Patton announced that one company of the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) is being deployed in the Ralan area starting today. “To ensure calm and safeguard the interests of our people, we are deploying one company of the IRB in the Ralan area. Also, under the DAB zone, any eviction activity will be taken up jointly by the governments of Assam and Nagaland,” he added.

Patton reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to upholding law and order while protecting the dignity and rights of citizens. “Our government will continue engaging with all stakeholders to ensure peace and security in the region,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to various leaders and organizations for their cooperation during the visit, including MLA Achumbemo Kikon, DC Wokha, SP Wokha, DIG Border, DIG Range, LSU president, representatives of Ralan Area, Lotha Hoho, Ralan Area Students’ Union, and the 7th NAP Commandant.

Later in the day, the Deputy CM also convened a coordination meeting in Niuland district—another porous border region—where similar concerns were echoed.

“With concerns mounting over a possible influx of illegal immigrants into Nagaland, it was heartening to see how united and vigilant the people have been. I deeply appreciate the efforts of the District Administration, GBs, students, youth bodies, and volunteers who are maintaining round-the-clock vigilance,” Patton posted on ‘X’.

Stating that Niuland, being a porous border area, demands full attention, Patton urged the NGOs and local leaders to remain alert and proactive, identifying and reporting any unfamiliar settlement activitity within their jurisdiction.

The meeting was attended by MLA Achumbemo Kikon and stakeholders comprising DC Niuland, CP Dimapur, HoDs, councillors of Niuland Town Council, members of Niuland Town Students’ Union, GBs, and public leaders.
