Patton’s PA’s residence razed at Wokha, investigation underway

Wokha: It is not known yet what caused the fire and no injuries or fatalities have been reported

A house at Chukitong, Wokha district, belonging to Chiyingo, the personal assistant of Yanthungo Patton, Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, was razed to the grounds in the early hours on Friday morning.

The news of the incident quickly escalated as the area is already under much anxiety owing to the forthcoming election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

Following the unfortunate event, the police arrested two persons in connection with the incident who were later released due of lack of evidence.

Talking with Nagaland Tribune, Senchumo (NSN) Lotha, JDU candidate and Patton’s opponent for 37th Tyui A/C, stated that the complainant had confessed about filing the compliant without any substantial evidence.

Lotha, who was present at the police station, said that he had come to the station as a concerned citizen of Chukitong Range, after being informed that the accused, who were from Koio village, had been arrested “without any reason”.

“I have come here to raise the opinion that no person from my range should be arrested without any reasons,” Lotha said, adding that he was also there to make sure that the public does not come in the way of authorities’ investigation.

Further, NSN Lotha assured that the two accused and the complainant had resolved the matter between them and that the situation was under control.

Earlier, Y. Patton took to a micro blogging platform to announce his displeasure, tweeting that the incident was “deeply disturbing”.

“My thoughts are with him (PA) & his family. The safety of our citizens is of utmost importance to us and I urge Wokha Police to conduct a thorough investigation into this,” he added.

The veteran BJP politician tagged Nagaland Police and Rupin Sharma, IPS, DGP Nagaland in his tweet.

No injuries or fatalities have been reported from the blaze.

It is not known yet what caused the fire, but investigation is underway on the matter.
