The Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) condoled the demise of its Coach (Archery) Hünezo Thisa.
“Today we have lost a pioneer, a coach, a promoter and a champion in the field of archery. Who have not only brought our community in the global platform but have also trained and produce many like him. A person who have achieved much for himself, the youngsters of our community and for the Nagas as a whole,” stated the PDSA in a condolence message.
The Association noted that Thisa brought laurels and was a champion during his youth and after his retirement contributing much to their community and the State of Nagaland as a whole. It highlighted some of his few achievements among many-
- VIII & IX Sports Festival for NE Region, 1994 &1995 respectively – Individual Champion.
- National Games 1994- Gold medal
- Second International Cup Federation Archery Competition 1991(India Team) -Bronze medal
Thisa was a National Judge at the Archery Association of India (AAI), a sport administrator and was the incumbent Joint Secretary who was elected unopposed to Archery Association of India (AAI) under the presidency of Arjun Munda (Ex-Union Minister) for the tenure 2024-28.
He served as Convenor of the Archery Association of India Athletes Committee. He also served as Joint Secretary of Nagaland Archery Association and was a Founding member of Phek District Archery Association (PDAA) and was serving as Technical Advisor. He also serve as the State Sports Coach (Archery) Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland.
“Hünezo Thisa, a person who have dedicated his life for the promotion of archery in our State and have put Nagaland in the global map in the field of archery. His achievement is nothing short of greatness but a beam of light for the community and the Nagas to cherish upon. His contribution and dedication will be forever treasured and remembered in our heart in the years to come. May your tireless efforts and footsteps be a pillar and encouragement to the young generations in the days to come. Your legacy will forever be in our hearts and we thank God for the life you have lived with us,” expressed the PDSA.
It also noted that the community and the Nagas have loss a huge assest in a person like Thisa which will be difficult to fill the void he left behind.
