People’s College Mokokchung held its Graduation-cum-Felicitation Programme on July 30 at the College Auditorium, marking a proud moment for the institution as it celebrated the achievements of its graduating students and honoured two university rank holders.
The spotlight was on Tongpangmei (BA General, CGPA 7.15) and Vino Awomi (BA General, CGPA
7.04), who secured the 5th and 7th ranks respectively in the Nagaland University UG (CBCS) 2025 examination. Their accomplishments brought recognition and pride to the college, reflecting the hard work and dedication of both the students and faculty.
The event was graced by Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, who addressed the gathering as the special guest. In his speech, he congratulated the students for their achievements and praised the teachers for their commitment to quality education. He emphasized that earning a bachelor’s degree is the beginning of a new chapter—whether through higher studies or stepping into professional life.
“A bachelor’s degree is a universal certificate,” he said, “and from today, graduates must carry a clear vision and walk with determination to meet their goals.”

Akok Walling, Chairman of the Board of Governors, also spoke at the event. He extended congratulations to the teaching staff and students for their outstanding performance. Walling shared that the college is now under the leadership of a new proprietor, Temjenmao, who is committed to transforming People’s College into a centre for affordable and quality education for students in and around Mokokchung.
He noted that the new management aims to serve students who may not have the resources to pursue higher education in larger cities. “The objective is not commercial gain, but to build an institution where every student has access to quality learning at their doorstep,” he stated.
Walling encouraged the graduates to continue striving toward their dreams and to remember the foundation that shaped them. “Do not forget the forge that molded you,” he reminded.
The event was anchored by Dr. Obendangla, Assistant Professor, Department of History. Principal Dr. T.
Amongla delivered the welcome address, expressing pride in the students’ accomplishments and reaffirming the college’s commitment to excellence. Tongpangmei, one of the university rank holders, delivered the acceptance speech on behalf of the graduating batch. The programme concluded with a prayer offered by Alemjungshi, Assistant Professor, Department of History, seeking blessings for the future journey of the graduates.
The day served not only as a celebration of academic milestones but also as a new beginning for the college under new leadership, aiming to bring inclusive and transformative education to the region.
