Peren: ATMA exhibits varieties of millet at program for farmers, SHGs

ATMA, Peren showcases varieties of millet cultivated in the district on 1 May 2023.

The Peren district Agriculture Technology Management Agency, on Monday, showcased various varieties of millet cultivated in the district at its Exhibition-cum-Sale program at Lungda Market, Jalukie in commemoration of International Year of Millets 2023.

Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of ATMA Governing Board, Vineet Kumar, IAS released pamphlets on Yearly Agriculture Calendar translated in Zeliang dialect and Package and Practices of Millet Cultivation in Nagaland.

Kumar, the guest of honour, also highlighted the health benefits and advantages of millets production. While appreciating ATMA functionaries for their works and efforts towards the farming community and specially organizing such events to boost and encourage them, he encouraged the participating self-help groups and Food Security Groups to select a particular occupation so that a better linkage with the consumers can be developed.

A total of 12 SHGs/FSGs from 4 blocks of Peren district participated in the program, that was conducted with the objective to create a platform for farmers and SHGs to showcase and sell their produces. The event was also organised to create awareness about millet and encourage farmers to adopt millet cultivation.

Earlier, the program was chaired by Tonikali Achumi, Deputy Project Director ATMA, and welcome address was delivered by C. Dory Yanthan, DFO & Project Director ATMA.
