Vineet Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of District Task Force on Tuesday urged denizens of the district not to lower their guards against malaria as the district joined the rest of the world in observing World Malaria Day 2023.
He said that the district should work consistently to bring down the disease case to zero and encouraged all to follow the prevention guidelines given by the health department. Kumar also apprised all the departments to adopt precautious measures in their offices and its surroundings.
The DC appreciating the ASHAs at the village level of the district for working tirelessly and also urged them to rededicate themselves and give efforts for the total elimination of malaria in the district.
The ASHAs of New Puilwa Village, Sailhem Village and Gaily Village were felicitated as the best performing ASHAs and were awarded with cash along with citation certificates.
Dr. K. Limatula Ao, Chief Medical Officer, Peren stated that everybody needs to keep the surroundings clean and encouraged to raise awareness and give an effort to control and prevent eventually eradicated malaria in the district.

Dr. Hedungkiebe, District Vector Borne Officer, Peren presided over the observation of World Malaria Day and presented the Malaria elimination programme review and highlighted on early diagnosis and radical treatment and case-based surveillance.
He also mentioned that the ASHA performs tests on individuals in the village or when the patients visit Health Units, they are provided with free testing and treatment. 45000 long-lasting insecticidal nets were received in 2020 and were distributed, covering all villages in the district.
The DVBO also highlighted that in 2020, 3 cases of malaria were reported, zero in 2021 and 1 case in 2022.
Further, Dr. Hedungkiebe said that the programme will be organising a one-day seminar on malaria Elimination for ten selected churches under Jalukie Block and Anti-malaria month is to be observed in June.
