Peren DPDB meeting held

The monthly Peren District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting for July was held on July 7 at the DC’s Conference Hall, Peren, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman, DPDB Peren, Hiazu Meru.

At the outset, the DC welcomed all the members present, along with special invitees, including Principals of Government Schools under Peren District and officials from various internet service providers.

During the meeting, a new member, Sr. Tourist Officer, Peren, Imtisenla Pongener made a brief self-introduction to the board.

While reviewing the minutes of the previous meeting on the adoption of Government Schools under Peren District, the DC highlighted the various initiatives undertaken by the different Sub-Committees.

School authorities also presented the challenges they face, including the need for additional infrastructure, and shared the initiatives already implemented at the school level. Emphasizing the importance of providing quality education, the DC encouraged schools to organize career guidance and counselling programmes to better equip the students for their future.

Responding to the concerns raised by GHSS Ahthibung, Principal regarding the poor condition of the school building, the DC stated that the house will write a letter to the state government.

Regarding the recently viral photo of a teacher and a student crossing a hanging bridge at Mangleu River, which is actually a three-year-old picture; the DC stated that the Headmaster of GHS Lilen has already submitted a request for the construction of a bridge.

The Deputy Commissioner also mentioned that his office has forwarded this request to the 9th Assam Rifles, recommending the project to be taken up under the Military Civic Action (MCA) initiative. A response from the Assam Rifles is currently awaited. In this connection, DC has also requested the DEO, Peren and SDO (C), Ahthibung to submit a comprehensive report on the matter.

He also emphasized that in this day and age, internet connectivity is crucial for the effective functioning of government offices. In this regard, he urged the internet service providers to ensure reliable and efficient services.

In the meeting, several important developmental agendas were thoroughly discussed and approved for implementation in the district.

Among the key decisions, the house approved the LADP/Common Pool/Iconic Schemes for the year 2025-2026 concerning the 6th Tening and 7th Peren Assembly Constituencies. The house also rectified the earlier DPDB approval by amending the proposal title from “Commission of Town Council at Ahthibung Town” to “Constitution of Town Council at Ahthibung Town” to reflect the correct terminology.

Further, the proposal for the conversion of GMS Sector-A and GHSS Jalukie into a composite school was approved, aiming to streamline and strengthen the educational structure in the area. The house also resolved to conduct monthly social work activities at the District Headquarters and Sub-Divisional offices to promote cleanliness and community participation.

In a move to uplift rural development, the formation of the Rural Upliftment Society at Tening Town was also approved, following the recommendation of the EAC Tening.

During the meeting, officials from ATMA, Peren presented a detailed PowerPoint highlighting the various programmes, initiatives, and awareness drives successfully undertaken by the department across the district. The presentation was well-received and deemed satisfactory by the house.

In his concluding remarks, the DC reminded the house about the upcoming District Development Coordination & Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting with the Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), S. Supongmeren Jamir, who is also the Chairperson of DISHA. The meeting is scheduled for 9th July, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner, Peren. He further directed all Heads of Departments to come prepared with PowerPoint presentations detailing their respective departmental activities, in both hard and soft copies. Additionally, for the next meeting, the DC has entrusted the Forest Department and the Soil & Water Conservation Department to present PowerPoint presentations on their departmental activities.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from the chairman.
