SCERT Nagaland organised an orientation program focusing on the protection of child rights and school safety at the Auditorium Hall of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Peren on 15 September 2023, a DIPR report said. The program was sponsored by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
Dr Zavise Rume, the resource person and SCERT Nodal Officer, emphasized the importance of safeguarding children’s rights. He spoke about the necessity of shielding children from all forms of violence, neglect, physical and sexual abuse, as well as the significance of creating a secure school environment. Dr Rume stressed the need for counseling services for children and the essential role of life skills education in ensuring child safety in today’s world, marked by growing mobile and internet addiction.
He urged parents and educators to share equal responsibility in shaping the future of the children.
Dr Rume also discussed the Yash Pal Committee of 2009, which advocated for burden-free learning, various forms of corporal punishment, and the Right to Education Act adopted by the government.
In addition, he highlighted the National Education Policy of 2020, emphasizing the importance of training children to respond to abuse and creating supportive, emotionally safe environments within schools.
The introductory session of the SCERT program was chaired by Samlam.
