Perseverance: All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) 21st Biennial General Conference commences at Mount Tiyi College, Wokha

Under the theme ‘Perseverance’, the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) 21st Biennial General Conference commenced at Mount Tiyi College, Wokha on October 24.

Altogether 850 delegates from 40 colleges across Nagaland are attending the Conference which will beheld from October 24 -26.

The Introductory session began with MLA, Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe as the Introductory Guest and Tribal General, ANCSU, Katho P. Awomi as the chairperson. Y. M Humtsoe in his speech

Humtsoe expressed gratitude to the ANCSU for providing opportunity to Wokha District to host the 21st Biennial General Conference this year, despite limited infrastructure and resources

Delving on the history of the Lotha Nagas, Humtsoe reminded that Wokha upgraded as a district in December 1973, but with the reduction of Assembly constituencies from five to four in the third general election in 1974.

Humtsoe pointed out that while the Lothas are considered a forward tribe in Nagaland, they lag behind other tribes in terms of development. He emphasised the need for attention to the Bhandari constituency, one of the largest in Nagaland with more than 85 villages, which lacks developmental infrastructure and colleges. The MLA urged the ANCSU to visit the area and extend support whenever possible.

Humtsoe also suggested that a resolution be adopted in the conference, urging the government to improve Mount Tiyi College, the only government college in Wokha district and one of the oldest in Nagaland, which currently lacks infrastructure facilities and other amenities.

Lastly, Humtsoe emphasized the importance of unity in all aspects, stating that progress among the Nagas can only be achieved through understanding, cooperation, and solidarity.

Dr. Bweyhungle Khing, Principal, MTC in her welcome address expressed gratitude to the Introductory Guest for his heartfelt concerned, support, commitment and encouragement towards the Naga’s Students community and the Society. Dr. Khing also acknowledged the ANCSU which has greatly contributed for the welfare of the Naga Students community and the society, not only in the field of education but also in many other aspects.

“Peace and Unity is the favourite child of God, so basing on this, let us all come forward and join our hands together to make our society a place of peace, love, unity, make our Nation a land of economic self sufficiency,” stated Dr. Khing.

Lironthung Kithan from the Lotha Students’ Union, in his greetings expressed gratitude, reminding that after a long gap, the ANCSU Conference has been held in Wokha District. Kithan also acknowledged all the dedicated leaders rendering their best in the service, strengthening the union and thereby bringing the union this far.

He also reminded that ANCSU and Lotha Students Union shares the same aspirations as both the organization strives towards the same goals.

The conference witnessed a special number from Mount Olive College, Kohima. The General Secretary of ANCSU, Tenyesinlo Bukh provided a report on the activities conducted which was later followed by the Union Assembly. The opening show was performed by students of Mount Tiyi College, Wokha, meanwhile Vice President, ANCSU, Kahovi Z. Rochill delivered an introduction hour.
