S. Toiho Yeptho, Member of Legislative Assembly, 33 A/C Suruhuto said at the inaugural programme for Nivishe village on 12 April 2023 that in Sumi traditions, a person who establishes a village is the king of the village.
Speaking as the chief guest of the programme, Yeptho urged the people from the Sumi community to abstain from using GB or Gaon bura but to instead use ‘Akukau’ as the forefathers did.
The MLA apprised the Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto district that the term ‘Gaon bura’ was an understatement of ‘Akukau’ which means ‘king of village’. He also said that in Sumi traditional practices, the person who establishes a village was considered the king of that village.
Nivishe village was recently recognized under Suruhuto Constituency and Aghunato Sub-Division in Zunheboto district.
Dr. Sukhato A Sema, MLA, 13 A/C Pughoboto, in his short speech, quoted Psalms 126 chapter 1: A Song of Ascents.
“When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dream.
Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with shouts of joy;
then they said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”
