Pharmacies in 3 districts asked to install CCTV to check sale of scheduled X or H drugs

Dimapur: Schedule H and X drugs include Narcotic and Psychotropic drugs that causes delusion, hallucination, psychosis, sedation and hypnosis

The Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Nagaland, Kevithuto Sophie, IPS has directed all Medical/Pharmacy shops in the districts of Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland to install CCTV cameras inside and outside their shops within one month from Wednesday.

The order was issued to check sale of scheduled X or H drugs as per Rule. 65 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945.

The Commissioner of Police, Dimapur further stated that the footage of CCTV camera can be randomly checked by the District Drug Controller Authority/Child Welfare Police Officer anytime and warned that appropriate action would be taken against defaulters.

According to the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945, Schedule H and X drugs include Narcotic and Psychotropic drugs that causes delusion, hallucination, psychosis, sedation and hypnosis.

Schedule H drugs, labelled with the symbol ‘Rx’, can be sold only based on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner and only the amount specified in the prescription should be sold.

When selling Schedule X drugs, the drug retailer has to preserve the copy of prescription for two years and the drugs should be labelled with the symbol ‘XRx’.
