The monthly DPDB meeting for Phek district was held at the Conference Hall in Phek on 10 October.
Razouvolie Dozo, Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman of DPDB Phek, chaired the meeting.
The members discussed agendas for the registration of a multipurpose society in respect of Laruri Village Women Society under Meluri Sub-Division and Sakraba Village Multipurpose Society of the Pfutsero Sub-Division.
They then deliberated and agreed on recommendations to the Government for approval.
In connection with Society Registration, the DC informed the house that no recommendation for society registration will be made unless it is properly authenticated and verified.

Wutsutho, District Sports Officer, Phek, gave a PowerPoint presentation on the various sports activities undertaken by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports (YR&S) in Phek district.
He said the YR&S department in Phek district was established in 1979, with two separate establishments: District Sports Office headed by District Sports Officer and District Youth Resources Office headed by District Youth Resources Officer.
Under the District Sports Office, there are 11 staff members while the District Youth Resources Office has 5 members.
The goal of the department is to promote sports players at the national and international level.
The sports department conducts sporting events throughout the year in which young boys and girls with potential are identified and recruited in the Sports Academies so that they can participate in sports events in the regional, national and international stage.
The department focuses mainly on grass-root development in the sub-junior and junior category through activities such as the Catch Them Young Tournament and inter district high school tournaments.
Wutsutho highlighted the activities carried out by the department since 2021.
Sports activities
- The district level Under 14 Catch Them Young Tournament was held on 30 October 2021 at Badminton stadium, Phek.
- The selected players from Phek then participated in the state level 13th edition of Under 14 Catch Them Young Tournament at IG Stadium, Kohima on 11-13 November 2021. Phek district won medals in badminton –bronze in men’s single and bronze in women’s double.
- The district level event of Indigenous Games was held at Public Play Ground, Phek on 5 April 2021.
- The selected players participated at the state level Indigenous Games on 8 and 9 April 2021 at IG Stadium, Kohima, where Phek won second prize in women’s tug of war.
- The district level Under 14 Sepaktakraw tournament cum selection of players took place at Town Hall, Phek on 17 September 2022. Selected players will represent the state level Sepaktakraw tournament from 12 to 15 October 2022 at IG Stadium, Kohima.
Youth activities
- The district level Inter-High School Literary Competition took place on 6 April 2021 at Higher Secondary School, Phek. The selected students participated in the state level Literary Competition at IG Stadium, Kohima on 27 April 2021. Phek district won second prize in Quiz and third prize in Essay Writing competition.
- Students from Phek district participated in the state level Youth Adventure Programme in Khonoma village, 22-24 February 2022. Phek district won second price in group song competition.
- The YRS department in collaboration with the NYKS and 38th Assam Rifle observed International Day of Yoga at Auditorium Hall on 21 June 2022 where 174 youths took part in the programme.
The district sports officer also stated that Phek district has two functioning Khelo India Centres (KIC) – Thenyizu Wrestling Institute (category: past champion) and Khrokolo Foundation Badminton Academy (category: private organization).

On 29 June 2020, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had decided to establish 1,000 Khelo India Centres (KIC) over a period of four years at the district level across the country in 14 Identified Sports Discipline for Excellence in Olympics (ISEO).
Wutsutho said Nagaland currently has 19 functioning Khelo India Centres. Each centre must have a minimum of 30 regular trainees (15 boys/15 girls), he added.

During the presentation, the sports officer also highlighted the achievements of the Phek district contingent at the 2nd Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2022.
Team Phek was led by Wutsutho DSO, Phek as Chef de Mission, Nezosa Tetseo as Deputy Chef de Mission and Shri Solomon Ritse as District Team Manager.
The team comprised of an overall 160 members – 134 athletes, 12 coaches, 13 managers and 1 chaplain.

Achievements of the Phek contingent:
- 1st Runner Up in Group Champion
- Group Champion in Athletics
- Spirit of Olympic Award
- Best male Athlete – Zhokhoto Dimo with five gold medals in archery

Wutsutho pointed out that Phek district came second in the medals tally with a total of 59 medals – 22 gold, 20 silver and 17 bronze.
For the next monthly meeting of DPDB Phek, the chairman has entrusted the Department of Housing to give the Powerpoint presentation.
