The Phek Police and SAKHI: One Stop Centre hosted a life skill Training in food processing, paper bag making, and a seminar on employment and career avenues at the Phek Police Church Training Hall on August 6.

SP Phek Dr. Pritpal Kaur IPS addressed the attendees, highlighting various career opportunities and entrepreneurship pathways for parents to guide their children away from harmful habits such as alcohol and drug use. She discussed different entrance exams and their methodologies, and later, taught entrepreneurship skills to all participants.

Dr. Kaur also encouraged women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to become self-sufficient and offer more entrepreneurial opportunities to the youth, contributing to the empowerment of the border district. Additionally, paper bag making initiatives aim to make Phek district plastic-free while generating employment.

Kulo Kezo, DEO Phek, encouraged parents to guide students towards admissions in ITI, polytechnic, or colleges based on their interests. He also outlined various government schemes available. Zhozoto from Nakro Young Professional, Ministry of Labour and Employment, urged students to visit the office for career guidance and discussed various employment opportunities.

The training included practical skills in oyster mushroom cultivation, pickle making (chilli, mango, etc.), and paper bag making, conducted by trainers from the One Stop Sakhi Centre under the leadership of Jitsiasa. She encouraged all the SHGs for innovations in their products and to make teams for work.Jitsiasa also spoke on women’s rights and role of sakhi one stop centre for women’s welfare and rights.

The event saw participation from women from 16 churches, members of the Phek Police Family Welfare, students, and SHGs from Phek. The program was chaired by Kuvesuhlu Khesoh, President of the Phek Town Church Women’s Union.
