Phiro village in Wokha gets first-of-its-kind amphitheatre

Phiro village of Wokha district became a first to get an amphitheatre when Director of Rural Development, Nagaland, Liboni Humtsoe inaugurated it in Wokha district on 26 November.

In her address, the director expressed gratitude to the Wokha District Village Development Board Association (WDVDBA) for their sincere effort in successfully implementing the project. She also thanked the landowners for generously donating the land to construct the amphitheatre.

Humtsoe then urged the village functionaries, especially the Village Development Board (VDBs), to utilise the funds and implement the schemes as per the specifications and guidelines for the benefit of the community transparently and judiciously.

She also highlighted that the department of RD has taken up a scheme called Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA), and that the Government of India has introduced National Panchayath Awards (NPA) for the best performing VBDs.

The director of RD said that the winners of the NPA are judged on nine areas – poverty free & enhanced livelihood, healthy village, child-friendly village, water sufficient village, clean & green village, self-sufficient infrastructure, the socially secured village with good governance and finally, women friendly village.

Humtsoe appealed to the village community to extend co-operation to the village functionaries and implementing agencies so that schemes and projects are appropriately implemented. She called for unity in the community to bring about change and development and for a prosperous society.

She said that the amphitheatre was constructed under Wozhuro Block of DRDA, Wokha under 15 FC (untied) during 2022-23.

Mhondamo Shitiri, president of WDVDBA, while welcoming the gathering on behalf of Phiro village and the WDVDBA thanked the director, RD department, the land donors of Lt Shandamo and Lt Khvudemo Odyuo and their families for generously donating the land to construct the amphitheatre.

Short speeches were also delivered by DRDA Wokha Project Director P Koza, Nagaland State Village Development Board Association (NSVDBA) General Secretary Manthungo Kikon, NSVDBA Vice President Dr Imli, the chairman of Phiro Village Council, and representatives of the land donors.
