A plantation drive was held at Shisalen Riju, Mokokchung, on June 30 under the theme “Let’s Leaf a Legacy: A Plantation Drive for a Greener Tomorrow” to promote environmental awareness and honour the girl child. The event was organized by the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Mission Shakti and District Administration Mokokchung, in collaboration with Forerunners Mokokchung, as part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign.
Saplings were planted in the name of girl child and name tags were placed beside each plant as a mark of dedication.

Assistant Commissioner Ajay Moktan (IAS), the theme speaker, underlined the need to leave behind a legacy by supporting both daughters and nature, both of which, he noted, are often overlooked despite their contributions.
Chairperson of the event, Kato T Aomi, EAC (P) Mokokchung, emphasized that the plantation was a step towards recognising the role of girls in society. Sangtsui, EAC (P), urged participants to take ownership of the saplings and promote environmental and social responsibility.
Representatives from Forerunners Mokokchung encouraged youth to continue working towards gender equality and environmental sustainability. Various native species were planted during the drive.
The program concluded with a pledge to care for the planted saplings and continue efforts to create a supportive environment for every girl child.
